Arven Offshore Wind Farm welcomes HIE report on regional transformation opportunities in the Highlands and Islands

Arven Offshore Wind Farm welcomes the publication of Highlands and Islands Enterprise’s May 2025 report, Regional Transformational Opportunities in the Highlands and Islands. The report highlights the strategic importance of renewable energy in driving long-term economic transformation across the region and reinforces the Highlands and Islands’ unique potential in Scotland’s net zero transition.

Arven is proud to be part of this vision. Our project is rooted in Shetland and committed to delivering sustainable economic opportunities through clean energy. The HIE report emphasises the need to strengthen local supply chains, create high-quality jobs and secure investment in critical infrastructure, all of which align closely with Arven’s development strategy.

Our Supply Chain Development Statement outlines how we aim to:

  • Identify and build on Shetland’s existing industrial capabilities
  • Promote opportunities through platforms like Energy Pathfinders
  • Engage local businesses and support workforce re-skilling
  • Provide early insight into procurement and project timelines

The report also highlights the enabling role of infrastructure like the Shetland HVDC2 Link, which is key to unlocking offshore wind potential. Arven’s progress is already contributing to economic activity, including the development of Sumitomo’s manufacturing facility at the Port of Nigg to support this vital cable connection.

As the report makes clear, renewable energy presents a generational opportunity for the Highlands and Islands. Arven is committed to working closely with communities, stakeholders, and industry to ensure Shetland plays a central role in this transition – economically, socially and sustainably.
